Background: Resilient Futures is a transformative cohort program that emerged as an evolution of Hyams Foundation’s Building Movement Infrastructure Project (BMIP). BMIP is rooted in the critical alliance of 14 base-building organizations (13 in MA and 1 in RI), the Hyams Foundation as an aligned and trusted philanthropic partner, and The Organizing Center as a seasoned capacity-building partner.
This report serves as a reflection on Resilient Futures’ multi-year process and with an eye toward what this critical combination of forces makes possible: stronger movements capable of winning durable power. It affirms that organizational transformation is not only possible, but achievable with the right combination of support, trust, and long-term commitment.
The Resilient Futures Approach
At the outset, participating organizations consistently named their struggles to navigate internal challenges as the largest obstacle hindering their capacity to meet their organizing and base-building goals. Therefore, Resilient Futures focused on supporting organizations to transform their own organizations from within.
